My loyal die hard Lady Homemade friends would have noticed the lack of blog love for the last 2 months. I hate bloggers that make a big fuss about time between posts but I do owe a bit of an explanation and I really want to share in some exciting development at Lady Homemade HQ!
For the last couple of months, I have been furiously renovating my beloved apartment. It has been a HECTIC time. From the initial excitement of ripping out the old apartment and thinking renovating is a real hoot to painting for the 5th night in a row after a full days work. FYI – for all your bright eyed optimistic DIYers out there. Painting is shithouse. It goes without saying that it has been an intense time. But finally I can now say that just over 6 weeks after we started, things are finally starting to settle back to normal and our house is feeling like a really beautiful new home.
The biggest thing that I have struggled with over the recent weeks has been the lack of routine. Actually since the start of this year my routine has been a little bit all over the shop. The start to my working year has been somewhat of an exciting roller coaster, coupled with frantic home times as really meant things I have slipped from a health and wellness perspective. No – I haven’t started eating Macca’s, polishing off a bottle-o-wine a night and smoking but my diet has most certainly slipped, dropped and then crashed and burned in 2013.
It all started with work being out of control busy and there were a few instances where it’s late I am still in the office with no food so a couple of pieces of gluten free toast with nut butter is my dinner or feeling a bit stressed/tired/mentally exhausted so you need a little pick me up… couple of squares of dark chocolate, coffee etc. End of the hard week means you probably deserve a drink or two… sometimes a wine and then even at times a couple gluten laden beers. And don’t even get me started on Easter – Homemade spelt choc chip hot cross buns are gluten free, dairy free and paleo right?
So as you can see… Lady Homemade has had little tumble off the bandwagon in a big way. In terms of my health… things haven’t really been too bad but to be honest I think when small changes creep in the decline is so gradual you don’t notice the negative implications. Especially because I didn’t change my diet in the first place due to some sort of chronic illness. My digestion has been questionable but it always has been a little bit funny. Pretty much been in a permanent state of bloat but after a couple of weeks of it you just get used to it. But the biggest area where I have noticed the change is in my energy. Getting out of bed before 6:30 has been impossible and as a result my morning exercise routine has suffered. My skin is crap but that is why they invented make up right? And by about 3:30 in the arvo, I am going walkabout the office looking for some sort of pick me up. The thing that really shocked me was the other night after polishing off some ice cream for dessert about 20 minutes later… I wanted more, I need some more sugar. Uh-oh!
There is only one way back from this – a Whole30. Unlike my last one which was more a test of willpower than detox. This is going to be a complete detox and I think a struggle. Fortunately for me I am going it with my best friend and there are also a few other bloggers out there that are kicking off from April 1 like Bam Pow Paleo. I am kicking my Whole30 off from April 3rd and even when it is done, I will be keeping I pretty tight reign on my diet in particular sugar so make sure this sugar dragon is well and truly slayed! Like last time, I have a couple of extra Whole30 related goals:
- No Coffee
- Minimal fruit and trying to restrict to berries ONLY
- 30 minutes of movement everyday
If you are reading this post and identifying with this gradual slip in your diet and health then maybe it is time for you to consider something like a Whole30 too. A bit of time for you to reset and recalibrate your diet and get that I feel awesome buzz about yourself back (after the first week of detoxing )
So who is on board with me!?! Come on people!
